What is Kuta Lombok like?
Kuta is a coastal town in the south of the island of Lombok in Indonesia. The scenery is spectacular, with cliffs and mountains reaching the coast to create jagged and awe-inspiring landscapes and views. The beaches are some of the best in Indonesia, with pristine white sand, and transparent blue-greens in the water. Kuta has some of the best surfing in the world, so naturally many visitors are surfers.
Kuta has a wide variety of restaurants and outdoor activities. Many people come to Kuta just to unwind, surf, relax on the beach, rent a motorcycle to look around, engage in outdoor activities and enjoy the wide variety of food (cuisines: Indonesian (street food and restaurants), Chinese, Moroccan, Italian, Australian, Japanese, Spanish, with exceptional fresh caught local seafood everywhere.
-
Are there ATM’s on the Island?
Yes, there are over 10 ATM’s in Kuta alone
-
Is there cellphone service?
Yes, there is good cellphone service on Lombok. You can get a cheap local simcard and put some credit on it. With this simcard you can access the internet almost everywhere on the island.
-
Do you have private rooms?
Yes, you can book our bungalows for just 1 person.

When is the best time to come?
Lombok has good surf all year round. The water is always warm, hovering around 27-29°C (80-84°F). Like all Indonesian islands, Lombok has a tropical climate. Like Bali, Lombok has two distinct seasons – the dry season (between April and September) and the wet season (from October to March), with January being the wettest month.
Dry season:
South/Western swells hit Lombok during the dry season. The trade winds usually pick up after 11 am and can affect the waves. For the best surfing conditions during the dry season, it’s usually best to go surfing early in the morning and late afternoons. This of course depends on the conditions. If the trade winds don’t blow for a couple of days day, you’re in for some of the best waves of your life.Wet season:
Lombok’s wet season is drier than Bali’s, and if you don’t mind the occasional showers, you’ll be in for a treat. The swells are smaller, but they are cleaner compared to the dry season. The water is warm, the beaches are less crowded, and you can score some incredibly glassy waves. -
How do I get there?
Air
Duration: 30 min
Costs: from 250,000 IDR (19EUR)
Pick-up: freeThe easiest and fastest way to get to Lombok is by airplane. Lombok has direct flights coming in from Bali, Australia and some other Asian countries. Check www.skyscanner.com to chec flights/routes from your departure city. If there are no flights available, you can easily fly from Bali (30 min flight). Fares start from 250,000 IDR ($17). Airlines serving the route include Garuda Indonesia, AirAsia, CitiLink, Lion Air and Wings Air.
All flights from Bali depart from Denpasar Airport (Ngurah Rai International Airport). Ngurah Rai airport is located just south of the beach resort town of Kuta It’s about a 30-minute drive away from Kuta or 1 hour from Canggu. When flying to Lombok, you land on Praya, Lombok International Airport. Praya, Lombok International Airport is only a 20 minute drive from Kuta in the south of Lombok.
By fast boat/ferry – from Bali
Duration: 1.5 hours
Costs: 175,000 IDR (14EUR)
Pick up: additional costs 700.000 IDRWhen travelling from Bali to Lombok by fastboat, we suggest you to take a ferry from Padang Bai (Northeast of Bali) or Serangan (Southeast of Bali) to Senggigi Pier (West Lombok).
Senggigi Pier in Lombok is the best option to arrive at when you stay in Kuta Lombok. We do not recommend to arrive in Bangsal (North-East). Arriving in Bangsal adds a couple extra driving hours and additional costs to your journey.
The next decision to make is where to leave from in Bali. Also here you have to options:
- Padang Bai (Northeast of Bali)
- Serangan (Southeast of Bali)
Although the location of Serangan looks more convenient when you are staying in the south of Bali, there are fewer ferry companies operating from this port and all ferries have higher prices compared to Padang Bai.
Also, the journey might even take double the time when leaving from Serangan compared to Padang Bai.
By slow ferry – from Bali
Duration: 5-6 hours
Costs: The fee is 148,000 IDR (11EUR) for a motorbike and 100.000 IDR (65EUR) for any vehicle above 500CC (e.g. cars). If you don’t bring a vehicle it’s 57,000 IDR (4EUR) per passenger.
Pick up: additional costs 300.000 IDR (22EUR).Besides the fast ferries, there is another option to travel from Bali to Lombok oversea, which is the slow ferry. This could be convenient for you if you travel by car or motorbike from Bali.
However, the slow ferry is a time-consuming journey that can take up to 6 hours. Considering this long journey, it’s only recommended if you are taking a car or motorbike across to Lombok. It’s the only roll on-roll off vehicle ferry connecting the islands.
The slow ferry, also called public ferry, departs from Padangbai and arrives at Lembar Port in West Lombok. This port is about 1.5 hours from Kuta Lombok.
Currently, this ferry operates every 2.5 hours (May 2022). Departure times are 6:30, 9:00, 11:30, 14:00, 16:30, 19:00, 21:30 and continues during the night. Make sure to be there at least 30 minutes in advance as you will need to buy a separate card to buy your tickets.
